He watched anything he could on WWII. He always seemed to be looking for something, but he would never talk about it. I once asked him, naively, whether he ever killed anyone. He said he didn't know, and he didn't want to know. I knew then that he probably had. I often thought that it might have eased some burden, maybe even keep him from an early heart attack, if he had talked about it.
