ABOVE PHOTO: It's a tradition... Every January, we dress up Salty Dog, take a photo, and send out Happy New Year postcards to friends. In the past, he's been a pirate complete with an eye patch and sword, a fisherman in waders, and a snow boarder. (He's a very patient dog!)
Wow. Another new year already. To celebrate the calendar changeover, Hubby and I enjoyed a yummy dinner with friends and later—comfy in our jammies—watched the big ball drop and drank champagne spiked with Midori and peach puree. We reminisced about the memorable events that happened in our lives during 2007, but my thoughts quickly turned to 2008 as I drifted into dreamland for the night.
Upon waking, it occurred to me that I love every new year that decides to include me in it! A big ol' brand-spankin' clean slate of life that is filled with expectation and the knowledge that absolutely anything can happen. The start of a fresh year throws a collage of images onto my mental screen: a flourishing herb garden, innocent puppies, new friends, spur-of-the-moment road trips, adventures, rediscovering old friends, treasures, laughter, and celebrations of all the simple things that make every day great.
I'm excited to report that the character of Jersey Barnes will be back in another mystery titled Southern Poison (September, St. Martin's Press). I'm happy to have the opportunity to keep doing what I love, which is to entertain people with written words. And I'm especially excited to think of all the wonderful happenings I don't yet know about, such as the phone call from my agent informing me that a producer want to secure film rights to the Jersey Barnes series! Hey, it could happen. I just love new years.
Wishing everyone a warm and wonderful 2008.
Cheers, Tracy

What a cute picture of Salty Dog! He must be the most laid-back dog ever!
I really like your sentiment of a new year giving us a clean slate and that anything is possible...such an optimistic view of things.
Since I've loved all of your other novels, I can't wait 'til "Southern Poison" comes out! Your character development is so great!
Do you have a favorite character from "Southern Fatality" or any of your other books?
Of course, my favorite character is the main character, Jersey Barnes. I may be living a bit vicariously through her while clacking away at the keyboard...I've always wondered what it would be like to have cleavage! Plus she's tough and witty. Lots of fun to hang with :)
I also liked Jersey, but really enjoyed her "supporting cast" as well. Ox is such a great character and Jersey's dad and his poker pals bring a lot of humor. They had to be so fun to write!
I hope these wonderful characters come back in the next Jersey Barnes book!
